Industrial Security Performs Successful ISO Audit

by Andrea Pierce, CPP
Manager Quality and Compliance

In an effort to maintain high standards and quality services, Industrial Security Services regularly undergoes extensive audits. While most are internal, twice a year we undergo external audits conducted by our ISO Registrar to verify that our operations are in accordance with ISO standards.

Internal audits, which are performed eight times per year, are required by ISO and have proven to be an extremely important management tool. For Industrial Security, internal audits are focused on compliance and our internal processes throughout all regions are reviewed. Internal audits evaluate our compliance with customers’ security officer requirements, such as training, certifications and qualifications. These audits extend to the client site, which is audited for updated Post Orders, Site Training Checklists, and security officer regulatory compliance. Regular internal audits also examine Industrial Security’s office functions to ensure efficient and successful company processes.

External audits, which are a requirement for obtaining ISO certification, review all aspects of our compliance with ISO standards. A Registrar evaluates our internal audit processes, visits job sites, interviews security officers and examines our Post Orders to determine if they are current, approved and reviewed by the staff. Industrial Security’s hiring process, officer and management training and procedures are all subject to review during external audits.

Although ISO certification is required for many organizations by their customers, a few, like Industrial Security do it voluntarily. Industrial Security benefits many ways from certification. The audit process encourages us to constantly improve our services and operations. Customer requirements, regulatory processes and expectations are higher for the security industry and Industrial Security is committed to supplying a high level of quality, service and reliability.

The ISO standards, including the internal and external audit processes, have improved the reliability of our processes, as demonstrated in our July 26 external audit. The Registrar evaluating Industrial Security found our operations to be dedicated to continuous improvement, as demonstrated through the use of our quality objectives. Additionally, our reliance on an Internal Audit program served as a strong measure of the effectiveness of system outputs. The audit also revealed a strong Continued Management Review process for recording customer satisfaction, complaints, audit results and measures.

Following the audit, our management team shares the measurements at our regular monthly quality meeting. Compliance issues are discussed, as well as trends and improvement opportunities. By committing to a higher standard, Industrial Security has achieved the consistent, reliable service our customers value and expect.
